Transition Year

Transition year is a one year programme offered by St Colman’s Community College to students who successfully choose Transition Year. T.Y promotes personal and social development and recognises the need for students to experience at first hand many facets of working life.

The fourth year can enhance academic achievement in addition to enabling students experience a range of subjects outside of the set curriculum. A period of work placement is an integral part of the year. The programme combines year long studies in Irish, English, Maths, German, Science, Computer Applications and Art. Outside of these core subjects other avenues of study include Tourism Awareness, Music, Film, Enterprise Education and Architectural Awareness, PE, Career Guidance and Religious Studies further supplement this broad and balanced curriculum.
The programme offered may vary from year to year.

Students in Transition Year in St Colman’s C.C participate in the Annual Young Social Innovators project programme. The students work on project dealing with social justice and community care.

In 2009 we became one of the first schools in the country to become a C.O.S.I (Centre of Social Innovation) . The Advocates, (5th year students) work hard to raise awareness about social issues close to their hearts and work to create a more inclusive school environment.
