Extra Curricular

All pupils in St. Colman’s Community College enjoy the benefits of Physical Education, with each class having a double period every week for P.E. During the course of the year, pupils experience a wide range of activities, from all the major field games to indoor Hockey, Circuit Training, Orienteering and Athletics. Emphasis is also placed on Health Education and Hygiene.
We have a modern Indoor Hall which means that there are ample facilities for PE classes to be unaffected by bad weather. Our multi-purpose hall, gym and climbing wall are available for use by all students with excellent changing facilities also available. Our climbing wall is rated number 2 in Ireland and provides great fun and activities for all students in and out of school.
We encourage all our students to get involved in extra-curricular activities and we provide them with ample opportunities in a wide range of sports. Hurling and Football are a major part of St Colman’s Community College with teams entered in 1st year/U14/U16 and senior grades in Munster and Cork Hurling and Football championships.
Interest in Rugby and Ladies Football is growing year on year. We enter a junior team in the Cork and Munster Ladies Football championships each year. Our soccer team has seen considerable success in recent years winning many prestigious Cork championships and contending in Munster championships at all levels. We enter 1st year/U15/U17/ U19 teams in both the Munster and Cork competitions.
There is a growing interest in Athletics in the school, with training held every week to cover all disciplines. We have seen success in the past year at County Provisional and National level. The students also have the chance to participate in other extra-curricular activities such as Badminton, Futsall, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, Golf and Equestrian.

St Colman’s C.C is now an internationally recognised Green School. We received our first Green Flag in 2005 for our Waste Management mode. Since then we have gone on to achieve five green flags and successfully retained them for Litter and Waste Management, Energy, Water and Travel. Our Green Schools Committee is made up of students from 1st to 6th year. We are currently working on our 6th flag for Biodiversity.

St Colman’s Community College has a long tradition of running school tours for Transition Year and Fifth Year students. In recent years, our students have been lucky enough to have explored Berlin, Barcelona, Milan, Rome, Munich and Paris. These adventures have all been extremely successful and have enabled the students to participate in new cultural and social experiences.

School shows provide an opportunity for students to thrive in the arts. A plethora of talents and abilities are showcased, everything from acting, singing and dancing to set design and costume creation. Past productions have included the Broadway and West End hits ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Wicked’ and more recently we have staged updated versions of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Snow White’.

Our students are encouraged to take part in a number of competitions and events across a range of subject areas. In the past our students have been involved in National events such as ‘Young Scientist’, ‘Young Social Innovators’ and in more recent times the ‘One Big Idea Event’. Students participate in other events from Enterprise competitions to short story competitions and a variety of other similar activities. This type of involvement gives our students an opportunity to be innovative, creative and more socially aware — all key skills for the future.
